Books books books...
After fishing out for more than two hours in Landmark, finally settled with two books:
- The Prophet by Khalil Gibran (for online version of the book click here)
This is Thiruvilayadal style QA book. Fully loaded with Khalil Gibran's views about subjects like "What is marriage?", "Work", "Children", "Love" etc. This is a must read. He has kept his definitions short and sweet. For example Almustafa (an imaginary prophet in the book) says thus about Children :
"You may give them your love but not your thougts, For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. "
- The emperors new mind by Roger Penrose
This had been a loong pending one to my library. Though Penrose tells this book is aimed at making layperson understand about the modern day "robots" or the "thinking machines"(ie., is it possible at all to build a machine that can think?), the book is loaded with technical jargons and equations which might put off some readers. But in general if the person choses to ignore the Greek-Latin words, this surely is a good read. Me currently thumbing thru this one.
